    AGAVE AMERICANA IS THE LARGEST AND MOST MAJESTIC OF ALL THE AGAVE FAMILY. GROWING 8-10 FT IN BOTH HEIGHT AND WIDTH, THIS AGAVE IS CHARACTERIZED BY ITS BLUE-GREY LEAVES AND LONG LIFE. TAKING UP TO 15-20 YEARS TO REACH MATURITY, THIS VARIETY OF AGAVE IS NOT FOR THE IMPATIENT MEZCALERO. AGAVE AMERICANA IS ACTUALLY PROGENITOR TO IT'S MORE FAMOUS OAXACAN COUSIN, THE ARROQUENO, AN UNCOMMON AND HIGHLY SOUGHT AFTER MEZCAL. THE U.S. VERSION OF THIS SPECIES PRODUCES A SPIRIT OF EXCELLENT QUALITY WITH TRUE DEPTH OF FLAVOR.

THE GENTLE SLOPE TO THE FIELD ALLOWS FOR EXCESS WATER RUN OFF, AND THE SOUTHEAST ASPECT OF THE FARM PROTECTS THE PLANTS FROM THE BRUTAL LATE DAY HEAT DURING THE SUMMERS.
