R. Garcia Farms: Regino Garcia was a true entrepreneur of the West, from farmer to miner to cattle rancher. Born in Tacupeto, Mexico, Regino moved to California as teen. After years of working as a farm-labor contractor, he bought a plot of land and founded R. Garcia Farms. His son, Reynaldo “Henry” Garcia, has now taken up the mantle of running the family farm in Woodland. 25 years ago Henry’s father began planting Agave Americana with the vision that one day the magic of these plants would ensnare others. Now, his vision has come to fruition. Jano Spirits is proud to have partnered with Henry to turn these majestic plants into a spirit that expresses the place and history of the farm. Located in the northern Central Valley, R. Garcia Farms rests at 200ft elevation on heavy clay soils. The gentle slope to the field allows for excess water runoff, and the southeast aspect of the farm protects the plants from the brutal late day heat during the summers. There is a distinct chalkiness or dust that comes through in the spirit that can only be attributed to the sunbaked, iron-rich clay from which these agaves pull their nutrients.
